Beginning At Gakushuin

Usually it is required to go to the orientation event at around 9 or 10am at the beginning of September. You should make your way to the international centre in the central building.

It gives you a chance to meet your fellow exchange students, buddies for the year, and most importantly, to sit the placement test.

The test is a JLPT-style exam with multiple choice, but you should try to study at least a little beforehand. After the test, you can meet your buddies for the year who will help you settle into your new life, help with homework or just hang out. The centre will order in some sushi, cakes and Dominoes pizza. The day is finished off in true Japanese style by making you do loads of paperwork. This is important for things like health insurance, ward office administration and university forms.
