Week 8 of 2021 Sessions

With spring finally starting to convince us that it has in fact sprung, this month has so far felt like an appropriate time for there to be a burst of new sessions being held as part of the J-YAP IUSP schedule.

Throughout March, we have been excited to put on additional Shaberiba (language exchange) sessions, as well as two intensive courses in the N2 and N3 levels of the JLPT. It has been great to see the interest in all of these sessions, with students getting the opportunity not only to learn from experienced teachers, but in Shaberiba, the chance to talk to Japanese university students whose study abroad to English-speaking countries has also been curtailed or cancelled.

In the past week, the following sessions were held:

  • Shaberiba: Language Exchange with Japanese Students (Yumiko Schumacher | This Week's Theme: Spots for Outings, Recommended Spots for Outings)

  • N2 Intensive Course: Learn from a JLPT Exam Invigilator (Yukie Yagioka)

  • Pre-Intermediate Japanese Conversation: Yagioka Seminar (Yukie Yagioka | This Week's Theme: Markets)

  • Shaberiba: Language Exchange with Japanese Students (Hiroe Okamoto | This Week's Theme: Let's Do Interviews!)

  • Upper Intermediate Japanese Conversation: Practical Japanese(Hiroe Okamoto | This Week's Theme: Let's Speak to Japanese University Students)

  • N3 Intensive Course: This Week's Theme: "Tsukau" - Kanji, Vocab and Listening (Yumiko Schumacher)

  • Upper Intermediate Japanese Conversation: Riko-chan House (Riko Sherratt)

In addition to the upcoming special event, A Career in the Foreign Office: What it's really like to be a diplomat, we are excited to announce a further Careers Talk, this time welcoming SOAS graduate, Okinawan dive shop owner and experienced translator Amy Dunn to share her experiences. The focus of this session, Pursuing Life & Work in Japan: Grasping Opportunities both in Japan & Overseas, will be on finding ways to engage with Japanese language and culture even from outside Japan, with Amy also including tips for those looking to gain visa sponsorship or even start a business in Japan.
