Week 7 of Sessions

Week 7 of official J-YAP IUSP sessions was particularly special thanks to two Noh Workshops opened up to participating students by the University of Edinburgh. Led by Dr Helen Parker, these talks were part of a collaboration with prominent noh masters - a rare and exciting opportunity for all involved.

Here is a quick summary of the sessions delivered in Week 7.

  • Upper Intermediate Japanese Conversation: Linguistic and Non-Linguistic Communication (Kazumi Tanaka, SOAS)

  • Pre-Intermediate Japanese Conversation: The Fun of Learning a Language (Yumiko Schumacher)

  • Japanese Used in Anime (Part 1 - Upper-Intermediate): a session in which to expand awareness and understanding of the variety of language featured in anime and what it can represent (Dr Akiko Furukawa, SOAS)

  • Japanese Noh Drama Workshops: a chance to learn from noh masters Takeda Munenori, Takeda Yoshiteru and Takeda Takafumi about the theme of Myriads of gods and noh, with a demonstration of a part of the play Takasago (Dr Helen Parker, University of Edinburgh)

  • Literature of Modern Japan: Natsume Soseki's Kokoro: an introduction to the novel Kokoro, with readings of key passages (Dr Michael Tsang, University of Newcastle)

Check back here again to see what else we have coming up in future weeks!
