Week 3: O-tsukare sama deshita!

Updated: Nov 18, 2020

As we approach the final session of this week, the main phrase that comes to mind is: o-tsukare sama deshita! Both in the classroom and behind the scenes, students, teachers and J-YAP IUSP project members alike have had a busy, bustling time with all that has been going on.

To give just a flavour, this week has seen...

  • Upper Intermediate Japanese: Conversation Class

  • Codeswitching with Japanese Friends: a session focused on the different registers with which students may speak to friends in - or from - Japan

  • Pre-Intermediate Japanese: Conversation Class

  • Vocabulary and Expressions: an intermediate session looking at expressions such as 'sushi ni wa me ga nai'

  • Riko-chan House: a further opportunity for intermediate/advanced learners to develop their Japanese speaking skills

  • Shaberiba: an open discussion forum bringing together students of Japanese in the UK and Japanese students based in Japan

Next week is looking to be an exciting one already, with talks from Japanese Linguistics expert Dr Michael Tsang of Newcastle University as well as Margaret Tongue of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Keep an eye out for a further update next week!
