Week 3 of 2021 Sessions

J-YAP IUSP is off to a great start to 2021, with participant numbers increasing and great feedback on lessons in which students are enjoying learning Japanese together.

In particular, we were very pleased this week to hear from Upper Intermediate teacher Hiroe Okamoto, whose session "日本人の大学生と話そう!" (Let's Speak to Japanese University Students!) created an environment in which students were able match up in pairs to exchange thoughts and opinions in Japanese.

Other exciting news from the last week includes the triple whammy of sessions that took place on Saturday the 23rd. We were delighted to welcome approximately 25 students to each of the following careers talks, plus around 20 students to join in with the Shinnenkai (New Year Party):

  • Careers Talk: Finance, Cyber Security, Creatives Industries & More! (Speakers: Shaojie Tu (Jet) and Kyle Hamilton)

  • Careers Talk: JET Interview Advice (Speakers: Rachael Page, Jess Williams and Emma Crampton-Thomas)

  • J-YAP IUSP Shinnenkai featuring games and prizes for participants

The Shinnenkai featured games including a specially designed Escape Room, with the Yorkshire Dandies Team securing 1st place and the Takoyaki Team coming 2nd, each taking home with them a £10 gift voucher for their outstanding effort in breaking free of the Escape Room using only their knowledge of Japanese and Japan's regional foods.

As for what else happened in Week 3, our regular teachers did a great job as always, providing the following sessions for students:

  • Pre-Intermediate Japanese Conversation: Yagioka Seminar (Yukie Yagioka | This Week's Theme: Starts / the Night Sky)

  • Upper Intermediate Japanese Conversation: Practical Japanese(Hiroe Okamoto | This Week's Theme: Work which is Found / Work which is Lost)

  • Pre-Intermediate Japanese Conversation: Let's Speak Japanese (Yumiko Schumacher | This Week's Theme: Japanese Sweets)

  • Upper Intermediate Japanese Conversation: Riko-chan House (Riko Sherratt)

That's all for this week. Keep an eye out for future updates!
